An Arizona resident on X (formerly Twitter) who goes by the name Rod Shields has accused Hillary Cassel of being a "fraud" and called for her to be "expelled from office." Shields made this statement in response to Cassel's recent switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, which he described as a betrayal of her constituents. The post was made on his X account on January 2.
In another post, Shields accused Cassel of stealing the vote and called for her expulsion from office, warning of broader implications for respect toward laws and rules if such actions go unchecked.
According to Newsweek, Florida State Representative Cassel switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party on December 28, 2024. She cited concerns over the Democratic Party's stance on Israel, its tolerance of extreme progressive voices, and her desire to better represent Floridian values.
RedBroward reported that the Broward Democratic Party said Cassel’s switch misled supporters and prioritized political gain over the values of her District 101 constituents. The party added that their commitment should be to elect a representative who aligns with Democratic values.
According to the Florida House of Representatives, Hillary Cassel is a Republican legislator representing Florida's District 101. An attorney based in Dania Beach, she holds a Juris Doctor degree from Nova Southeastern University. Elected in 2022, she currently serves as vice chair of the Insurance & Banking Subcommittee.
