On February 13, 2025, Senator Geraldine Thompson passed away at the age of 76. Her career in the Florida Legislature spanned nearly two decades. She began her service in the Florida House of Representatives in 2006 and continued until 2012. Following this, she served in the Florida Senate from 2012 to 2016 before returning to the House from 2018 to 2022. In 2022, she was re-elected to the Senate representing District 15, where she served until her passing.
Senator Thompson's commitment to public service and community improvement marked her career. In recognition of her contributions, flags of both the United States and the State of Florida will be flown at half-staff on Thursday, March 13, 2025. This tribute will take place at the State Capitol in Tallahassee as well as all local and state buildings throughout Orange County from sunrise to sunset.
