Sen. Barrasso has presented the Safeguarding Medicaid Act, according to the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA). The bill is designed to implement asset verification for all Medicaid applicants and recipients, ensuring that resources are allocated to those in genuine need and preventing individuals with substantial assets from exploiting the program.
Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of FGA, expressed support for the bill, highlighting the increasing Medicaid costs affecting federal and state budgets. "Rising Medicaid costs are causing federal and state budgets to spiral out of control. Elected leaders across the country are now grappling with ways to improve the integrity of their programs, including setting proper eligibility checks to keep millionaires off Medicaid," Bragdon stated. He further emphasized the need for the bill to ensure that benefits are directed to those truly in need rather than individuals with significant financial means.
Bragdon also noted, "This bill is a commonsense solution to not only protect basic program integrity but also reserve limited taxpayer resources for those who truly need the safety net."
