More than 90 members from the Florida Farm Bureau recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate on behalf of the agriculture sector. The delegation consisted of Florida Farm Bureau leaders, county presidents, Women’s Committee members, and the Young Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Group. They focused on discussions surrounding key issues impacting Florida farms, including the Farm Bill, farm labor, trade, and tax relief.
"This annual grassroots advocacy trip is an opportunity for our members to have face-to-face conversations with key lawmakers at the national level," stated Lance Watson, National Affairs Director for Florida Farm Bureau. He emphasized the importance of providing a platform for their members to express the concerns and interests of Florida's farmers and ranchers directly to policymakers.
During their two-day visit, the group participated in meetings with officials from the Canadian and British Embassies, the United States Department of Agriculture, and had direct discussions with Florida’s Congressional delegation. They also attended a briefing session organized by the American Farm Bureau Federation, featuring U.S. Senators and Representatives. Additionally, a Florida Agriculture Partners Reception was hosted at the British Embassy by the Florida Farm Bureau and the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
