The Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) expressed approval after the Florida Senate passed SB 170, known as the Quality of Care in Nursing Homes bill. This legislation aims to enhance the quality of long-term care for the state's elderly population.
FHCA Chief Executive Officer Emmett Reed acknowledged the Senate's efforts, stating: “We applaud the Florida Senate for its forward-looking action in passing SB 170 and thank the senators for their unwavering support of Florida’s nursing centers. Our members strive every day to deliver the best possible care to those entrusted to them, and this legislation marks a significant advancement toward ensuring that Florida remains the gold standard for high-quality long term care.”
The newly passed Senate Bill 170 seeks to improve the coordination of care, implement expanded standards for medical directors, and emphasize the health of both residents and the staff caring for them. Reed also conveyed appreciation for Senator Colleen Burton's leadership, noting, “We’re especially grateful to Senator Colleen Burton for her leadership and vision in championing this important measure.”
