In Tallahassee, Florida, the Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) announced Fort Walton Rehabilitation Center as the winner of its 2025 Long Term Care Photo Contest. The announcement coincides with National Skilled Nursing Care Week. The contest received over 200 entries statewide and celebrated the theme "Inspiring Moments," focusing on everyday acts of compassion and connection within Florida's long-term care centers.
The winning photograph, "Seeing Without Vision," was taken by Dorothy Conner, a Certified Nursing Assistant and Activity Assistant at Fort Walton Rehabilitation Center. The image features a resident enjoying pet therapy sessions with Conner's dog, Barney. Conner explained her intention: “I wanted to capture the joy of Ms. W. holding my dog Barney; she always enjoys their visits. I think her face says it all.” As winners, Fort Walton Rehabilitation Center received a $500 contribution from FHCA for a social event for residents and staff, while Conner was awarded a $50 gift card.
Second place went to Melissa Wojewnik, Executive Director at Cypress Palms in Largo, for her photo titled “Foam-Filled Fun.” This picture shows a resident joining an intergenerational foam party after seeing children having fun nearby. Wojewnik described the moment: “As soon as he saw the kids laughing and playing, everything changed. He smiled, said ‘Can’t let the kids have all the fun!’ and let his inner child shine.” Cypress Palms received $300 from FHCA for their social event initiative.
The third-place photo was captured by Lidia Diaz from Unity Health and Rehabilitation Center in Miami. Titled “Cancer Awareness Fashion,” it highlights an annual fashion show promoting cancer awareness held each October at Unity Health. Marly Prudot, Unity’s Activity Director, commented on its significance: “It symbolizes hope, and we promote awareness and sensitization in the community for the many people affected by cancer.” Unity Health received $200 for their social event efforts.
The contest is sponsored annually by Incite Strategic Partners, Inc., with winning photos showcased on FHCA’s Facebook page during National Skilled Nursing Care Week from May 11-17 and displayed at FHCA events throughout 2025.
