McDonald's USA has announced a significant hiring initiative for the upcoming summer, aiming to recruit up to 375,000 restaurant employees nationwide. This move is part of the company's plan to expand its presence with 900 new U.S. restaurants by 2027 and accommodate increased customer demand during the summer months.
For decades, McDonald's and its franchisees have served as an entry point into the workforce for many Americans, offering not just employment but also opportunities for skill development in areas such as teamwork and customer service. The company emphasizes education through its Archways to Opportunity program, which provides resources for employee advancement within and outside of McDonald's.
Joe Erlinger, President of McDonald’s USA, highlighted the importance of crew members: “I often think about the time I spent working in our restaurants as a General Manager, and it was immediately clear that crew members are the heart and soul of this brand.” He added that working at McDonald's helps build lifelong skills.
Since its inception in 2015, Archways to Opportunity has seen over $240 million invested by McDonald's and its franchisees. More than 90,000 crew members have benefited from educational support services such as high school diploma completion, college tuition assistance, English language learning, and career advising.
Michael Gonda, Senior Vice President and Chief Impact Officer for North America at McDonald’s stated: “Seventy years as a brand, and ten years into Archways to Opportunity, we’re reminded that one of the greatest impacts we can make is providing access to opportunity.”
The program's impact is underscored by personal success stories like that of Victoria Villa Valles who achieved her educational goals through Archways. The recently released 10th Anniversary Report highlights survey findings from participants who attribute their economic potential enhancement (80%), quicker professional advancement (64%), job opportunity expansion (72%), first-generation college achievement (46%), and career transformation (75%) to Archways.
David Costa, a McDonald’s Owner/Operator in Florida said: “One of the most rewarding aspects of the Archways program is witnessing participants rediscover their self-confidence.” Ann Bydash echoed similar sentiments on resilience: “I always tell people you can do it. And even if you don’t do it the first time... You can try again.”
