SeaPort Manatee has appointed John D. Glass Jr., P.E., as the deputy director of engineering and construction. This move is aimed at bolstering the team responsible for infrastructure improvements at this rapidly expanding trade hub in Southwest and Central Florida.
Glass joins SeaPort Manatee after over 13 years with Moffatt & Nichol, a well-known global infrastructure advisory firm based in Long Beach, California. In his previous role, he served as a senior maritime structural engineer and project manager in Moffatt & Nichol's Tampa office.
“John brings extensive expertise in port planning, construction and engineering design at a time when SeaPort Manatee is moving forward with berth expansions and numerous other infrastructure projects while enjoying record activity,” stated Carlos Buqueras, SeaPort Manatee’s executive director. He also mentioned that Glass will report to George Isiminger, P.E., the port’s senior director of engineering and construction.
Glass holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of South Florida and resides in the Tampa Bay area with his family. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing and skiing.
Situated at the entrance to Tampa Bay in Southwest Florida, SeaPort Manatee serves as an essential gateway for growing markets in Southwest and Central Florida. It features convenient rail and road connections, including access to the distribution-center-rich Tampa/Orlando Interstate 4 corridor.
As the nearest U.S. deepwater seaport to the expanded Panama Canal, SeaPort Manatee provides 10 deep-draft berths catering to various cargo needs. The port generates approximately $7.3 billion annually in economic impacts while supporting more than 42,000 jobs without relying on local property tax support.
