Port Canaveral has welcomed Norwegian Cruise Line's latest ship, the Norwegian Aqua, which will be operating seasonal week-long cruises from its new homeport to destinations in the Caribbean and Bahamas.
"We have a great partnership with NCL and are excited to welcome Norwegian Aqua to our homeport fleet," stated Capt. John Murray, CEO of Port Canaveral. "Port Canaveral is the ideal homeport for this new Prima-Plus class ship, especially with more guests driving in to take advantage of our easy in/easy out access. Our team looks forward to providing their guests with the customer-focused experience that has made our Port a cruise industry leader."
David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, expressed enthusiasm about the ship's arrival: "We are so thrilled to have Norwegian Aqua homeport in Port Canaveral for her inaugural season of Caribbean voyages. Port Canaveral is an attractive cruise destination with a variety of attractions in the surrounding area for guests to extend their cruise vacation, and easy access by plane, train or automobile. Launching just in time for summer, Norwegian Aqua is designed to offer fun-in-the-sun voyages year-round with outdoor activities for guests looking for thrills, or who simply want to chill. We’re excited to have her begin her cruise journey with our partners at Port Canaveral!"
In accordance with maritime tradition, Captain Ashutosh Chandra of the Norwegian Aqua was presented with a commemorative plaque by Port Canaveral officials during the ship’s inaugural arrival.
The Norwegian Aqua will embark on seven-day sailings every Saturday from Port Canaveral through August 2025. The itinerary includes stops at Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic; St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands; Tortola in the British Virgin Islands; and Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private Bahamian island which is set for upgrades later this year.
Norwegian Aqua represents a 10 percent increase in size and capacity compared to its sister ships Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. As part of the Prima Plus Class vessels, it offers more outdoor space and higher staffing levels than any other contemporary cruise ship currently available.
The vessel features several industry firsts such as the Aqua Slidecoaster—an innovative hybrid waterslide and roller coaster—and Glow Court—a digital sports complex. Additionally, passengers can enjoy 17 dining options including a 10-station food hall as well as entertainment offerings like “Revolution: A Celebration of Prince” and interactive experiences such as Price is Right LIVE among other amenities on board.
