Gov. Ron DeSantis has issued a proclamation to honor Florida’s Purple Heart recipients. The announcement comes as the state prepares to observe Florida Purple Heart Day on August 7.
The observance was established in 2012 when the Florida Legislature unanimously passed legislation designating August 7 as a day to recognize those who have received the nation’s oldest military award for combat wounds.
“Many of whom paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the freedoms we hold so dear,” the proclamation states, referring to Purple Heart recipients.
Florida Purple Heart Day aims to honor and remember veterans who were wounded or killed in combat while serving in the U.S. military.
